Walmer Series
Walmer is the more aspirational technical expression within the new Castle Made in UK family. Walmer 1 is a standmount/bookshelf loudspeaker; Walmer 2 is a 3-way floorstanding system. Both are based around woven carbon fibre drive units - a classic Castle development - partnered with a true ribbon high-frequency unit originally developed for the Avon series.
The user proposition is neutral, natural and spacious. Walmer should be described as a speaker that keeps Castle’s warmth and furniture-grade appeal, but adds a more overt sense of resolution, speed and extension. Its directivity behaviour and high-dispersion HF make toe-in a matter of preference rather than necessity, helping the loudspeakers work across more seating positions.
Walmer selling points
- Woven carbon fibre bass and midrange units provide wide bandwidth, low colouration and strong transient behaviour.
- True ribbon treble delivers airy, fast and dynamically expressive high frequencies, with wide horizontal dispersion.
- Walmer 2 uses twin bass drivers and a dedicated midrange unit in its own internal enclosure, creating a true 3-way system.
- High HF crossover points keep the ribbon within its favourable operating range, reducing distortion and improving integration.
- Walmer 2 MLTL/plinth loading delivers deep bass extension down to 32Hz with controlled room behaviour.
Walmer Technical Rationale
Carbon fibre offers high stiffness-to-weight behaviour, helping the cone remain pistonic through a wide operating band. The practical benefit is clean transient attack, reduced low-level colouration and a more open midband.
